The Hong Kong government has decided to give away 500,000 free air tickets to promote the tourism industry and increase the interest of tourists in the country.
According to the American news agency CNN, a scheme called 'Hello Hong Kong' has been announced on Thursday, which has been in the works for two years.
Under this scheme, from March 1, tourists living all over the world can register themselves on the website called 'World of Winners' after which their name will be included in the draw. Successful candidates will be given tickets in three phases.
In the first phase, tickets will be given to tourists from Southeast Asian countries, followed by tourists from China to Hong Kong, and lastly, tourists from around the world will get free airline tickets.
The tickets will be distributed in cooperation with three Hong Kong airlines, Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines. The total amount of these 500,000 tickets is 254 million US dollars.
Hong Kong has acted slowly and cautiously against the coronavirus, which has severely damaged its tourism industry.
In January 2020, when the first cases of corona virus were reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan, it was at that time that ceremonies were banned in Hong Kong.
Travel to and from Hong Kong became quite expensive during the pandemic, with passengers having to undergo a strict 21-day quarantine and multiple PCR tests.
Before the Corona epidemic, Hong Kong usually received 56 million tourists a year, but in 2022, this number has reached only 100,000.
Not only has the number of foreign tourists to Hong Kong declined in recent years, but the financial center has also seen its population drop by 1.6 percent for the first time since 1961.
