Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Friday.

According to the state news agency SPA, the two leaders reviewed several regional and international issues of mutual interest and the past, present and future of joint cooperation in several important fields. They also discussed the bilateral relations between France and Iraq.

  In a statement issued by the Iraqi Prime Minister's office, it was said that a strategic partnership agreement has been signed between Iraq and France. It includes economic and security sectors as well as countering terrorism and extremism and strengthening cultural exchanges.

Apart from this, issues related to education, promotion of human rights, environmental protection, countering organized crime and economic crime and crisis management were also discussed.

In a meeting with French Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne, the Iraqi Prime Minister discussed ways of strengthening the relations between the two countries, conservation of archeology and promotion of cooperation in the fields of energy.

According to the Reuters news agency, the French presidency said in a statement that "strategic agreements have been signed to promote economic cooperation between European countries and Iraq".

The statement said that the French President and the Iraqi Prime Minister signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of anti-corruption, security, renewable energy and culture.
