Israel apparently behind attack on Iranian factory: US official

A US official has said that Israel appears to be behind the drone attack on an Iranian military factory.

According to the Reuters news agency, on Sunday, a US official said on condition of anonymity that it appears that Israel is involved.

Iran claimed it had shot down drones that targeted a military industry near the central city of Isfahan. According to officials, there was no loss of life or major damage.

The extent of the damage caused in this attack could not be confirmed by independent sources. Videos broadcast on Iranian state media showed a wave of light in the sky and emergency service vehicles at the scene.

An Israeli army spokesman declined to comment on the attack.

Long-time adversary Israel has repeatedly said it would target military targets there if Iran's nuclear or missile programs are not halted through diplomatic efforts. However, it has been Israel's policy not to comment on specific incidents at the official level.

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Reeder has said that no US military was involved in the attack on Iran. However, he refused to comment further.

First, a report by the American newspaper Wall Street Journal attributed to American officials that Israel was behind the drone attack on Iran.

The newspaper spoke on condition of anonymity to several senior US officials about the attack who provided details.

A US official told Reuters that Israel was behind the drone attack on Iran, but several other officials declined to comment, saying only that Washington had no role in the attack.

After the attack, Iran did not blame anyone, but Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian called it a "cowardly" act aimed at creating a "sense of insecurity" within the country.

Hossein Mirzai, a member of parliament, was broadcast on Iran's state TV saying that Israel was rumored to be behind the attack.
