Jerusalem attacks will be responded to immediately and forcefully: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced an "immediate and strong" response to the attacks in Jerusalem.

In the last two days, two separate attacks took place in the city of Jerusalem, Israel, which has not yet been claimed by any group, but these attacks have been praised by jihadist organizations.

Before the cabinet meeting held on security affairs, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Israel will now take more stringent measures to deal with "terrorism".

This statement of Prime Minister Netanyahu came after the arrest of a 13-year-old Palestinian boy by the Israeli police.

Israeli police arrested a 13-year-old Palestinian youth in connection with an alleged attack on a Jewish synagogue in East Jerusalem on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson of the Israeli police force, the attacker ambushed five worshipers, two of whom are in critical condition.

A separate attack on a Jewish synagogue in eastern Jerusalem on Friday targeted worshipers as they were leaving after worship.

At least seven people were killed in the attack while the attacker was killed on the spot.

It should be noted that these attacks took place after nine Palestinians were killed in an attack by the Israeli army in Jenin city in the occupied West Bank three days ago.

On the other hand, after these attacks, the Israeli army has also indicated the further increase in the number of soldiers in the occupied West Bank.

After which the Israeli police have detained 42 suspects.

According to Israeli Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, the current attacks are the worst in recent times.

According to local media, the Palestinian youth from East Jerusalem has not yet been identified.

"The assailant apparently tried to escape."

We are close to the Jewish synagogue that the police have cordoned off.

A wrecked car is parked in the middle of the road.

A police forensic officer examines a car with a flashlight on his head. They tell us to back off.

An eyewitness told us that he had seen an armed assailant on the road. The security personnel were chasing them when they were shot by a police officer and fired in the air.

This place is at a short distance from the place of worship, so it seems that the assailant tried to escape.

We also heard voices from nearby Palestinian areas, which gave the impression that there had been clashes between residents and Israeli forces.

The attack was seen as a sign of a significant escalation in tensions between Israelis and Palestinians and has raised fears that a wider conflict could erupt between the two sides.

The synagogue that was attacked on Friday is located in the 'Prophet Ya'qub' neighborhood, where there is an Israeli settlement.

However, the 'Prophet Ya'qub' neighborhood is located in a part of Jerusalem that is considered Palestinian territory by Palestinians as well as by international law.

This part of Jerusalem has been occupied by Israel since 1967 and it says it has incorporated it into its territory.

United Kingdom, United States and United Nations statement of condemnation

The attack on the synagogue took place on Holocaust Memorial Day.

On the other hand, US Foreign Minister Anthony Blanken has said that the US strongly condemns this terrorist attack.

According to the White House, President Joe Biden spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the phone and assured him of his support.

In addition to Benjamin Netanyahu, the controversial Minister of National Security Itmar Bin Ghafir has visited the scene. Ben Ghafir had promised to bring peace back to the streets of Israel, but the people are apparently angry with him for not doing so.

According to the spokesperson of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, he has said that he is very worried about the increase in violent incidents in the Israeli and Palestinian territories. "It's time to show resistance."

It should be noted that Israel captured East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East war and now considers the entire city as its capital. However, the majority of countries worldwide do not recognize it.

The Palestinians claim that East Jerusalem will be the capital of their future independent state.
